Terri DeBoer Wins Republican Primary in Michigan's 3rd Congressional District

BYRON CENTER, Mich. — August 4, 2026 — West Michigan meteorologist, author, wife, mother, and grandmother Terri DeBoer has won the Republican nomination for Michigan's 3rd Congressional District with a decisive 79% to 21% victory.

DeBoer, a political outsider running on a “common sense” platform, is now primed to take on the most important goal yet - flipping the district back into Republican hands so that the interests of West Michigan are truly represented. 

“I am thrilled to see the overwhelming support in the returns tonight,” said DeBoer from her watch party in Byron Center, where she has lived with her husband, Bill for more than 30 years. “I have heard from countless voters frustrated with the lack of bold action in Washington. They are worried about rising prices and the stampede of socialists taking over the Democrat party.

“As our next representative in Congress, I plan to take bold action that would make health care, housing, food, and energy more affordable, while Democrats like my opponent have turned a blind eye to wasted tax dollars spent on fraud.  As Ronald Reagan said so memorably over 40 years ago, government is not the solution but the problem.

DeBoer says she is encouraged by an independent poll (Harper Polling) that shows her net “favorability” rating is nearly the same as the incumbent and improves with swing voters. “A near majority believe it’s time to give someone new a chance in Congress rather than reelecting Scholten,” states the pollster. 

DeBoer’s campaign quickly gained momentum after she announced her candidacy on March 5. 2026.  To date, DeBoer has raised over $640,000, of which over 95% percent was given by donors in Michigan. In contrast, incumbent Democrat Hillary Scholten reports nearly 20% of her donors live outside Michigan, mostly in blue states such as California and Illinois who regularly try to buy influence in other states.
