Temporary Family Members

We’re enjoying a “stay-cation” this year for Spring Break! Since we are “staying home” for the week off, we volunteered to ‘dog-sit’ for my son’s newly adopted dogs.
I’ve got to admit, I’m not really a dog person. I often feel a little nervous around dogs, since I didn’t grow up with a FIDO in the home. As a result, I let my insecurities overtake my feelings when it comes to dogs.
When the kids were much younger, we had a dog for about 6 months, until I discovered I was expecting our youngest. I thought a puppy and newborn would send me “over the edge”, so I made the difficult decision to allow another family to adopt our dog.
That was 14 years ago!
Fast forward to the Summer of 2009. We had been pet-free, when we decided to let your youngest adopt 2 kitties. (How hard is it to have a couple of kitties, right?)
The cats are easy pets, pretty self-suficient. Of course, the cats aren’t very affectionate. They hide from us, almost acting like WE are guests in THEIR home!
So now this week with these cute dogs! What a blast!
I’m considering whether our “Temporary” Family Members may become a more “Permanent” part of our family.
Though the biggest problem with that change in our living arrangements is the CATS! (They don’t seem to be very excited about sharing “their home” with furry 4-legged friends of a different variety)

Motivation

We’re making the transition into the Spring season, but West Michigan’s weather has seemed a little “flaky” this month. We’ve gone from more than a week of record-breaking warmth, with highs in the 80s, to a few snowflakes just to the north of Grand Rapids this morning.

Of course, we know the weather will soon enough turn the corner toward extended stretches of warm, dry and sunny days!

The recent “false start” of gorgeous weather was actually a good reminder….reminding us to take advantage of the “inside weather” when it’s rainy or windy or chilly….to get those lingering tasks accomplished! For me, it’s a big project of wallpaper removal, painting and packing…in an area of our home where my son will be moving into with his new wife after their wedding in early June.

As a huge fan of warm and sunny weather, I really need to get all of my ‘inside work’ done now…so I can feel the freedom to enjoy another stretch of sensational weather when it arrives!

Full House

After becoming accustomed to having only one of my three kids left at home, I can’t believe what a treat it seems like to have a “Full House” for Saturday dinner. My oldest two are college kids, and spend much more time “away” from home that actually at home. For this weekend, I’m actually getting a few bursts of time to have them all around at the same time. Such a rare treat must dictate the need for a great meal, right? Actually, because our evening plans will scatter us in different directions within the next hour…this ‘family gathering’ will actually feature TAKE OUT PIZZA! (Good to remember, somethings never change!

Creating a BLOG

20120125-145037.jpg

WOW! My 2nd official BLOG posting here! By checking the date on my previous (original) posting, it took just a little more than a YEAR to post a follow up entry to my initial entry which was simply entitled “Hello World”! Thanks to the generous gift of an iPad from the “Birthday Fairies”, I’m going to be a ‘posting machine”! (That’s the plan, anyway)
